What is a Cheval Mirror?

Cheval mirrors are traditionally long free standing mirrors that are attached to a frame so that they can tilt to provide the correct angle for the viewer. Designed as dressing mirrors in 18th century France, they stand on the floor and traditionally had four feet - hence the name cheval meaning horse in French.

Cheval mirrors are incredibly stylish and echo times gone by. Ideal if you want the mirror to be a focal point in a room and are looking for an elegant addition. As people are all different heights, this makes the cheval mirror a great option if you will want to adjust the angle of the mirror or share the mirror with others.

Useful Floor Standing Mirrors

An advantage of floor standing mirrors is that they are portable. So if you have a room where you need the furniture to be flexible, then a free standing mirror is ideal. Say you want to pull out a guest bed which would make a wall mirror inaccessible; a floor mirror can be lifted and moved easily until it is ready to be returned. When you have a special occasion or event that requires a mirror, for example a gathering of friends getting ready for a night out or the preparations for a wedding, it is useful to be able to relocate the mirror where it is needed most or where there is more space for the guests to use it.
